Towns Water Main Refurbishment at Hinkley Point B Power Station for British Energy
This work involves the detailed design, fabrication and installation of a replacement Towns Water Main system at British Energy's Nuclear Power Station in Somerset.
The new system is in polythene material, replacing steel pipework. Both butt fusion and electrofusion jointing methods have been used.
PNP's experience with British Energy at Dungeness led to the invitation to tender for this work.
The design and installation programme have been influenced by the client's need to maintain supplies to all areas at all times other than short isolated shutdowns. Pruce Newman's experience at working within a live plant has proved very valuable and good communication and co-ordination with the client has been imperative. The work to date has been completed successfully and a good client relationship has been established.
The contracted installation works are being carried out in two phases, to suit the client's operational needs, commencing in November 2007. The first phase was completed in September 2008 with the second phase for completion in 2009.
The project is valued at approximately £1m.
